The Shasta-Cascades AVA petition is in its final touches before submittal to the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Trade Bureau (TTB)
for the approval process. The petition documents will probably be sent to the TTB within the next week as of the time of
this writing. The final copy of the Shasta- Cascades AVA petition will be available for viewing by the SCVA membership at
the winter meeting on January 29. Copies of the petition will also be sent to Senator Boxer and Senator Feinstein's offices as
they are very interested in our two AVA projects. A soon as the Shasta-Cascades AVA petition is submitted, work will begin
on the Northern Sacramento River Valley petition. This process should be much shorter as the learning curve has already
been experienced. A big thank you to all of the SCVA membership for coming to consensus concerning the project. A special big
thank you goes out to Greg Butler, Gary Venable, Dave Roth, and Christine Sullivan on making the petition go from concept to a reality.
A big thank you and a hug to my wife, Rebecca, for her patience during this almost two year process. Mike Jenkins AVA Coordinator

THE VOTE IS IN
Numerous Unique Wineries and Premium Grapes from the Shasta Cascades (1500 elev - 3000 elev )
region of Northern Sacramento River Valley
UPDATE !!!
April 17, 2010
General consensus was that we will go with two AVA's.
One named "Shasta Cascades AVA" replacing the name Volcanic Legacy and
"Northern Sacramento River Valley AVA" replacing the name Stanford Legacy. Refer to attached Working Map 2 for color depiction of those AVA's. Disregard the names as they appear and substitute the names above.
Raising the elevation on the West side of the Northern Sacramento River Valley AVA from 1000' to 1500' to include the folks growing grapes around Igo & Ono.
Keeping the altitude boundary at 1000' on the East side of the AVA where it shares the boundary with California Cascades AVA.
Need to adjust the southern boundary of California Cascades AVA to the North Fork of the Feather River as it is the geologic boundary between Cascade and Sierra Nevada ranges, this will probably exclude the cluster of wineries south of Oroville as they are in the Sierra Nevada geologic regime.
Adjust the southern boundary of Northern Sacramento River I've amended the Valley AVA to the Lake Oroville/Feather River downstream to where the river crosses Butte County line, then continue along Butte County line over to Glenn County line continuing west to where the county line reaches 1500' elevation.
A change to Working Map 2 is required to reflect these boundary adjustments and name changes.
Anyone (winery or group) is free to develop their own AVA petition (think here of the Oroville group of wineries).
Mike Jenkins, AVA Coordinator, will draft a list of tasks to accomplish and submit .
We will address a plan to begin briefing/letter writing to the political side of local, state, and national elected officials so we have agreement and support for the projects.
Christine Sullivan will begin research and drafting as soon as she wants to start. Mike J. has other jobs to contend with so will not be able to vigorously draft for either AVA at the present. This summer he will be free to dedicate more time.
Shooting for completion of both petitions at the end of December 2010.
AVA Coordinator is setting up gmail address book for direct contact to active participants using mjbacchus@gmail.com his address.
If any of you who attended the meeting notice I forgot any important points, please remind me and I'll add to the list!
Cheers,
Greg
