PRUNING
WORKSHOP
SCVA
has a pruning workshop scheduled (good
weather permitting) at Ash Creek
Vineyard on February 11th. Ash Creek
Vineyard is one of the largest vineyards in
our area with about 35 acres of chardonnay
grapes. Owner Sam Marovich is trying
to sell his vineyard and in poor health.
He is undergoing dialysis and unable to hire
or do the pruning himself. We can help
him out!
We will start at 8 AM on Saturday the 11th
and continue until lunch time. You
will be shown how to prune eight-year old
vines and then proceed at your own pace
until quitting time. Dress
appropriately for the weather and ground
conditions. Bring your hand clippers,
utility loppers if you prefer, water,
snacks, etc. We will not prune if it
is raining or if rain is forecast within two
days following the 11th to minimize risk of
eutypa infection (carried in rainwater)
which will cause die back and eventual plant
death. Because of these conditions,
please call me if you plan to attend the
workshop and contact me if in doubt about
the weather.
Directions
to Ash Creek Vineyard:
Take
Hwy. 44 East from Palo Cedro to intersection
with Dersch Road, appx. 8 miles. Right
turn on Dersch Road and proceed for about 2
miles, pass Ash Creek Road, less than a
mile, left turn on Buffalo Road.
Vineyard is about 1/2 mile on left.
